According to the Klout website, Klout "measures influence based on your ability to drive action"... The Klout Score uses data from social networks in order to measure: True Reach, Amplification, and Network Impact. True Reach is how many people you influence. Amplification is how much you influence them, like when you post a message, how many people respond to it or spread it further? An example Network Impact would be, "How often do top Influencers share and respond to your content?"
Now why is it important? Before social media became popular in today's culture, a celebrity would hold a lot of power over influencing others. Today, now anyone can influence people. All you need is a twitter, Facebook, or other type of social media to create content and have it go viral. Klout makes it easy to see how many times your content is getting shared and how many people respond to it. Klout is just a tool to measure influence.
