In the past, fans have had to watch the game on the television. Now, with better technology and the popularity of social media, fans do not necessarily have to be in front of the television. They can see it on their computer, on their phone, or keep up to date through twitter, Facebook, Google plus and GetGlue.

How to Follow Super Bowl 2012 With Social Media
Technology has changed the face of the Superbowl over the past few years. Instead of being glued to the game the entire time, technology has allowed viewers to run errands or multitask while still keeping up with the game. This year, you can view the Superbowl live over the internet. My best friend from home is currently studying abroad in Spain and is tuning into the game online. Additionally, fans can go on twitter and follow the @Superbowl official account for the most up-to-date plays and scores. Fans can also log on Facebook and "like" the official New York Giants or New England Patriots pages to have updates sent to their mini feeds. Additionally, Verizon customers can enjoy live streaming on their smart phones. You can also download the free SB XLVI Guide for Iphones or Ipads. For those that do not have Verizon service, you can download the NFL's Super Bowl-centric applications. Additionally, Google plus has created their own pre-game and post-game activities. Both teams have very active Google Plus accounts, known for interaction with fans and shareable items. Lastly, the TV check-in site GetGlue is offering a lot of extras for those checking in throughout the game. If fans check in while watching the live stream on NBC, they’ll gain exclusive access to behind the scenes photos and video from the Super Bowl, and a check-in during a Pepsi ad could earn cases of the soda for life.
